A couple of Dr. Evil gifs later, we started outlining the Open Data Inception project: a list of 2600+ Open Data portals around the world.

ArcGIS Open Data

ArcGIS Open Data uses the ArcGIS Online groups you already have to identify open data, allowing you to quickly publish or remove your open data. Your open datasets automatically sync with the latest version of your sources. It can even integrate with other open data platforms, such as CKAN.

ICPSR: Find & Analyze Data   
ICPSR stores, curates, and provides access to scientific data so others can reuse the data and validate research findings. Curation, from the Latin “to care,” is the process that ICPSR uses to add value to data, maximize access, and ensure long-term preservation.

National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey  
The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) is a program of studies designed to assess the health and nutritional status of adults and children in the United States. The survey is unique in that it combines interviews and physical examinations. NHANES is a major program of the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). NCHS is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and has the responsibility for producing vital and health statistics for the Nation.

The Human Mortality Database  
he Human Mortality Database (HMD) was created to provide detailed mortality and population data to researchers, students, journalists, policy analysts, and others interested in the history of human longevity. The project began as an outgrowth of earlier projects in the Department of Demography at the University of California, Berkeley, USA, and at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany (see history). It is the work of two teams of researchers in the USA and Germany (see research teams), with the help of financial backers and scientific collaborators from around the world (see acknowledgements). The French Institute for Demographic Studies (INED) has also supported the further development of the database in recent years.

Oceanographic Data Repositories   
Funded by the National Science Foundation, the Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) provides access to several oceanographic data repositories created by the US Joint Global Ocean Flux Study and US Global Ocean Ecosystem Dynamic programs.

Global Change Master Directory

The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT)   
The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is a non-profit, non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world. Covering 6.5 million square kilometers of land in 55 countries, the semi-arid or dryland tropics has over 2 billion people, and 644 million of these are the poorest of the poor. ICRISAT and its partners help empower these poor people to overcome poverty, hunger and a degraded environment through better agriculture.

The Scholars Portal   –
The Scholars Portal Dataverse is a repository for research data collected by researchers and organizations primarily affiliated with Ontario universities. It is open to anyone in the world to deposit, share, and archive data. Researchers can directly deposit data in the Dataverse, create metadata, and release and share data openly or privately.
