The Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Bibliography Search Tool

The Bibliography Search Tool allows you to search for individual citations from journal articles that have been published using data from most research programs conducted by NCES. The bibliography is updated continually and includes citations from 1973 to present. The list of citations was derived from computer searches of online bibliographic databases (i.e., EBSCO, JSTOR, EconLit, Dissertation Abstracts), ERIC, as well as the NCES website.

American President: A Reference Resource

Digest of Education Statistics

A compilation of American education statistics. Information includes number of schools, number of teachers, enrollment rates, finance information and a host of other tables and charts

National Center for Education Statistics  
“NCES is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data that are related to education in the United States and other nations.” Look here for statistical information on all levels of education. The site includes an encyclopedia of education statistics, an FAQ, activities for children, and a catalog of NCES publications.

Economic Indicators   
Compilations of economic indicators for the United States. Includes such indicators as Gross Domestic Project, employment and wage statistics, productivity measures, prices, money and security markets. Also includes some international economic statistics. Indicators are available monthly from 1995 to the present. Searchable.

National Agricultural Statistics Service   
Database from the National Agriculture Statistics Service that allows users to search for US, state, county and territory data on crops, livestock, and farms by census years.

Crossref   
Crossref’s general purpose is to promote the development and cooperative use of new and innovative technologies to speed and facilitate scholarly research. Crossref’s specific mandate is to be the citation linking backbone for all scholarly information in electronic form. Crossref is a collaborative reference linking service that functions as a sort of digital switchboard. It holds no full text content, but rather effects linkages through Crossref Digital Object Identifiers (Crossref DOI), which are tagged to article metadata supplied by the participating publishers. The end result is an efficient, scalable linking system through which a researcher can click on a reference citation in a journal and access the cited article.

Oxford Research Encyclopedias

Oxford University Press is embarking on its most ambitious reference project in decades. Through the Oxford Research Encyclopedia (ORE) program, OUP is building a series of highly discoverable, peer-reviewed, online encyclopedias with essays planned, written, and reviewed by the world’s leading scholars and scientists. The British National Bibliography (BNB)  
The British National Bibliography (BNB) lists the books and new journal titles published or distributed in the United Kingdom and Ireland since 1950. It also lists forthcoming book titles and hand-held electronic publications e.g. CD-ROMs, deposited with the Legal Deposit Office since 2003.

The Sloane Printed Books catalogue   
The Sloane Printed Books catalogue lists books which belonged to Sir Hans Sloane (1660-1753). Bibliographical records are enhanced with Sloane’s own numbers or other identifying marks, and with information about previous owners. A number of records include information on the physical state and condition of the items.

German Biography (ADB / NDB)

The ADB (55 volumes and a register, 1873-1912) and the NDB (25 volumes, since 1953) are first-class information tools for persons who were outstandingly effective in the German-speaking world as historical-biographical lexicons. From the Middle Ages to the present, all areas of public, scientific, economic and cultural life are taken into account. In this register, the individual registers of all the volumes published so far of the NDB and the general register of the ADB are cumulated and supplemented with additional information from the articles. The database includes not only the persons who are dedicated to the NDB or the ADB, but also the names mentioned in the genealogies as well as in the individual and family articles.

ADB/NDB Deutsche Biographie

Dictionary of Nineteenth-Century Journalism  
The Dictionary of Nineteenth-Century Journalism is an attempt to provide a snapshot of British and Irish journalism in the nineteenth century, and a gateway to the period. Print journalism both shaped and reflected the complexities of its time, as the internet does now.
